What Is SkinPen® Microneedling?

SkinPen® Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a skin treatment for wrinkles, acne scars, the texture of the skin, and complexion. SkinPen® Microneedling uses tiny needles to puncture the skin gently. When the skin heals, it fills tiny punctures with new skin cells. The procedure encourages the skin to produce more collagen and elastin to help diminish skin issues. Microneedling is safe, painless, and effective, and the results are nearly immediate as the skin and collagen naturally heal themselves. Acne scars and other issues are diminished. Microneedling can be done on almost any part of the body, and patients with all different oily combinations and dry skin can all benefit from microneedling.

What Results Can I Expect?

There is an immediate “glow” after your SkinPen® treatment session, but this is an initial reaction of the skin to the punctures. These treatments at Beach Aesthetics provide a progression of results, and the PRP boosts the regeneration mechanisms. Your collagen and elastin production ramps up and continues for weeks. Visible changes with the skin develop over several days and weeks. Your results can continue to improve for up to six months.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Your results are permanent. The new collagen and elastin are real, and they aren’t going anywhere. But your body continues to decrease its natural production with the passing years. That’s just a fact of the aging process. Since your body builds new collagen, elastin, and skin cells, you need to give it time to get down to business. Our patients like to schedule microneedling in a series of 3-6 treatments. This provides excellent skin firming and improved texture. These treatments should be spaced about every 4-6 weeks, as this is about the duration of the increase in collagen and elastin.

What Are The Risks Involved With Microneedling?

The risks involved with our SkinPen® microneedling are lower than other skin treatments such as chemical peels and fractional laser treatments. This is a very low-risk, safe procedure. At Beach Aesthetics, we are very conscious of safety. We use a completely new, sterile tip for the SkinPen with every patient, so there is no danger of contamination. Side effects after a SkinPen session include bleeding, bruising and possible infection, but these are rare. Most patients simply have red skin for the remainder of their treatment day. This will likely fade to pink the second day, and the skin may feel a little tight, but you can return to your normal activities with your regular makeup covering the pink skin.
